The Biology of Burnout, the Science of Recovery – and the Wisdom of Lived Experience
Healing Beyond the Diagnosis: Nervous System Wisdom for Real-Life Recovery
There’s a gap in how we treat illness.
Especially when it comes to autoimmunity, chronic stress, and burnout—conditions that don’t follow simple timelines or neat protocols. For years, that gap left me feeling invisible. My symptoms were overwhelming, but the answers were vague. The support was reactive, not proactive. And the emotional cost of illness? It wasn’t even in the conversation.
When I was first diagnosed with Graves Disease, my life changed.
I dropped weight.
I stopped sleeping.
Anxiety took over.
I felt like my system was on fire—but I didn’t have the language or tools to understand what was happening inside my own body.
What I now know is this:
My nervous system was stuck in survival.
And my symptoms weren’t random—they were intelligent responses to unresolved stress, trauma, and deep dysregulation.
Finding the Missing Link
What no one ever told me was that chronic illness and burnout often have emotional root causes—early life experiences, attachment wounds, accumulated stress, and stored trauma patterns that shape the way our nervous systems respond to the world.
As I slowly pieced together what was missing, I found myself on a completely different path:
One that didn't just address symptoms…
But truly supported healing at the root.
Over time, I retrained in everything I’d wished I’d been offered:
IEMT (Integral Eye Movement Therapy) to shift unprocessed emotional imprints
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) to regulate the vagus nerve and restore calm
Somatic movement and rest to gently bring my body back online
Reiki and subtle energy work to reconnect with my own life force
And perhaps most importantly, a trauma-aware, spiritual approach to reconnection
A New Conversation with the NHS + British Society of Lifestyle Medicine
This October, I’ve been invited to speak at an NHS conference—sharing my personal and professional journey of healing with frontline healthcare providers. I’ll also be part of the Voices of Lived Experience panel at the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine (BSLM) Conference, contributing to a growing movement that recognises the importance of trauma-informed, holistic care.
For years, many of us have felt let down by a system that focused only on the surface.
But this moment feels like a turning point.
We are finally seeing the science catch up to the somatic.
The nervous system is no longer a footnote—it’s central.
Healing isn’t just about prescriptions, it’s about reconnection.
And the experiences of people like you and me are being recognised not as anecdotal, but as essential data.
From Personal Recovery to Collective Support
Today, I work with clients navigating stress, early negative experiences, chronic illness and emotional overwhelm—because I know how hard it is to feel lost in your own body.
My 1:1 programmes (Breakthrough and Freedom) and new **group programme launching in September—Rebalance & Rebuild—**draw from lived experience and evidence-based practice.
But more than anything, they’re grounded in deep care.
Because when your system has been in survival for too long, healing isn’t just about “getting better.” It’s about finding safety again. Learning trust again. Rebuilding your energy from the inside out.
If You’re On This Path Too…
Know this:
You don’t have to do it alone.
You’re not weak for feeling the way you do.
Your symptoms are not your fault—and they are not the end of your story.
As the mainstream system slowly opens to new understandings of stress, trauma, and the body, I’ll be there—bridging science with softness, practice with presence.
