The answers...
“Each of us has to discover specific and concrete, tangible practices and actions we can take to restore us to a felt sense of safety and connection, in those moments when we become triggered, activated, and overwhelmed.
It’s essential to remember that spirituality and healing is not one size fits all; we have to learn to listen to our unique bodies, souls and nervous systems to discover what is most effective, skillful and compassionate for us. What works for another may not work for us, and may even be harmful… and what works one day may not work the next.” - Matt Licata
Are you struggling?
Are you reaching for answers everywhere?
Which supplements, exercise, yoga, meditation will work to get me out of x,y,z?
There is confusion. I see it all over the place in forums and discussions. I was the same when I was ill too.
The mainstream model had no answers for me at all, I knew it was my own path to health and a puzzle I had to figure out myself.
Of course I took advice and guidance from specific specialists but I had to stop and figure out what was going on for me first. To listen and to understand.
The bigger question for me was "How did I get here?"
Instead of asking what is wrong with me or how do I get out of this mess and chaos I'm feeling?
I started to ask...
"Why do I feel this way?"
Because by the time I reached a diagnosis of Graves Disease I had already experienced multiple trips to the hospital over the years with other related issues. So I asked, "Why is this pattern still the same?"
In essence I began the process of finding the root causes of my issues. What was creating the chaos at a deeper level?
It took a little time to dig down deeper and sometimes it felt slow. But that was what was needed.
What had actually caused all the problems was my inability to stop. I was avoiding the actual issue which was a deep rooted emotional pain and pattern.
From that point on, an unravelling began. Rather than adding anything, I started to take things out of my life that weren't helping. I slowly stepped out of the chaos and made life a little simpler.
If you are adding supplements to support a bad diet or a chaotic lifestyle.
If you are restricting your diet and filling your life with punishing exercise regimes and still not reaching your goals.
If you feel amazing in a yoga or meditation class and then the next day you still feel in fight and flight.
Then it really is time to dig a little deeper.
Asking other people will bring you other people's answers. Not yours.
Some people will tell you they have "the answer" too. There is no one answer, it's your path and always will be.
We are creatures of patterns and habits and most of those are learned from an early age. For some of us those initial stages of life didn't feel that safe or supporting, we learn strategies for surviving and not thriving. These strategies and coping mechanisms stay with us.
For me understanding how and why I reacted and responded to life was a huge lightbulb moment. From that point on I could begin a process of changing my patterns without force or striving.
I used different techniques and modalities. Sought support for the specific issues I was experiencing. I still do.
We cannot start to heal until we understand what it is we are actually trying to heal.
“Healing is embracing what is most feared; healing is opening what has been closed, softening what has hardened into obstruction, healing is learning to trust life.” – Jeanne Achterberg
