Resolutions...
As I desperately try to avoid the "new year, new you" malarky, I recognise it is an inevitable part of the year.
Post Christmas bloat and fuelled by wine and chaos, we want feel renewed and restored. To wake up feeling fresher and lighter.
But before we dive into a new year with resolutions, I wonder how often we reflect on our lives, our path and look at who we have become.
When was the last time you paused to take stock of where you are?
Not simply what you’ve done, but who you are?
This year has been tense and tight and lots of friction for me, but on reflection I have found more of myself and I can see who I am becoming. and what I am called to do.
You can’t set goals for the future if you don’t self reflect and learn from where you have been. To honour what is behind you.
Using the learning and awareness of the year past allows us to use that knowledge to create a clearer and more powerful road map for our future. This leads and guides us in a more profound way.
It helps us to create a life we desire and love, a life with more meaning and happiness, of expansion and growth. We become more of who we are inside and connect to our purpose.
When we go for the "new year, new you" we tend to be using the mindset of "we have been bad and now we must be good"
We essentially punish ourselves for the enjoyment of Christmas.
We start to go for things that don't excite us or light us up. We numb with more "I should" and "ought to"
This year, especially in the limbo between Christmas and New Year. Find a quiet spot in the chaos and grab a journal or pen and paper, take your time and keep returning if it feels right.
What were the parts of last year that lit you up, excited you and made you feel happy and alive?
What were the parts of last year that you'd prefer not to return to? Even if there was a lesson in those moments, what would rather not experience again?
What did you learn this year, about yourself, about others, about life?
