“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” ― Søren Kierkegaard
It’s a weird time of change and adjustment in my life at the moment.
I have a bit of a theory that change is hard and have argued this many times. But I suppose it’s only hard if we make it so.
If we cling. If we control. Or try to.
Whenever I have had a period of change and letting go in the past I have always replaced something old with a new habit or goal.
When I gave up smoking (successfully on that occasion) I started to run. It made life simpler and easier to let go of the old without hankering for it.
Because we know it’s no good for us. That’s why we are giving it up. Whatever it may be.
But the brain, the ego, the pattern keeps clinging on for dear life.
This way of offering road out, a light in the tunnel, a new focus it shows us where we are going.
Never without looking back, reflection is important.
But it allows us to grieve and honour the past whilst still creating new life.
Every change is different and they aren’t all about the physical. But they all take commitment and a willingness to shift gears for a while.
I’ll let you know how this one flies for me…
