Have you ever met someone who seems to have it all together in the wellness department? Social media is full of them and although I live healthily now, I can assure you—I wasn't always that person. In fact, when I share my journey into wellness, it's often met with audible gasps!
At 18, I was the antithesis of health. Fast food was my go-to cuisine, alcohol my preferred beverage, cigarettes my constant companion, and self-care an alien concept. My sole source of validation came from being a workaholic hairdresser, where I'd frantically take on extra clients for money or because I couldn't bear disappointing anyone. I was trapped in a cycle of doing more, being better, and working harder than everyone else.
The Wake-Up Call Nobody Wants
What finally derailed this destructive express train? Autoimmune disease. My body declared war on itself through chronic inflammation and dysregulation. While I was busy pleasing others, resentment and anger festered inside. I existed in a perpetual state of exhaustion yet couldn't stop because of all the "musts," "shoulds," and "have-tos" driving me. Perfectionism and people-pleasing were taking their toll on a foundation of zero self-worth.
For years, I felt cheated by having to confront these issues so young. Now I recognise it as a blessing in disguise—being forcibly ejected from my dark places, my rage and compelled to examine what was really happening beneath the surface. This transformation became my life's work and fuels my passion for helping clients achieve similar breakthroughs.
The Journey Begins (But Not Where You'd Expect)
My healing started with Reiki treatments, which gently awakened me to sensations in my own body. I was fortunate that my teachers approached healing somatically. During a severe eye flare-up, my Reiki Master asked profound questions: "What are you seeing or not seeing? Are you seeing 'red'? Can you see joy ahead?"
She connected my emotional world to my physical and mental experience, and suddenly everything started to click. This revelation sent me diving deep into various wellness modalities—often too deep, too fast, driven by my perfectionist tendency to "get it right."
I invested thousands seeking that one magical solution. I restricted my diet, exhausted myself with rigorous daily regimens, and participated in ceremonial releases—all hoping to find the answer. Yet my emotional, mental, and physical health issues persisted, leaving me feeling defeated and like a failure with each setback.
The Real Transformation
The most significant shifts happened when I stopped hunting for quick fixes and started addressing root causes. This meant:
Confronting past negative experiences
Approaching health holistically
Abandoning the search for that one miracle cure
Breaking addictive patterns
Reforming my diet
Establishing healthy boundaries
Creating supportive routines that reinforced my commitment to myself
In essence: taking radical self-responsibility.
The Benefits Began Flowing:
My sleep quality improved dramatically
My energy stabilised
My nervous system regulated
My resilience strengthened
I understood how past traumas affected my present and what I needed daily to feel better
Beyond the Quick Fix
Cold plunges, emotional purges in workshops, and ceremonial releases provided temporary relief, but when I returned to everyday life, the same issues awaited me. Real change required gently revisiting my past to understand my present and support my future.
The Power of IEMT and SSP
Two approaches that dramatically accelerated my healing were Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) and Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP).
IEMT Benefits:
Rapidly neutralises negative emotions tied to memories without requiring detailed retelling
Addresses limiting identity beliefs that keep us stuck in patterns
Creates neural flexibility where rigid thinking once dominated

Recalibrates the nervous system to perceive safety

Through these approaches and consistent practice, I transformed from a nervous, people-pleasing wreck into someone balanced, peaceful, and resilient.
